Founder's Note #2: Deciding What To Build Next When You Have A LOT of Ideas

My mind never shuts off, and it's constantly whirling with new ideas, concepts for potential workflows, potential enhancements for already existing features, and long-term ideas that could add value for my users. But having all these ideas can make it hard to figure out where to start, and what provides the user with the most value.
I am a pen-and-paper girlie, so I write everything down on sticky notes or in my product notebook and put it up on my pin board in a now next later ideas setup. As I collect feedback from users, things move around on the board and get prioritized appropriately with development. Talking to users is key! I can have loads of ideas but if it doesn’t meet and solve a user need then it doesn’t need to be built right now.
Maybe it’ll get there some day, but if that’s not today, then it stays in the ideas (backlog)
